Our Admission Criteria

Each admissions counselor at Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center is a licensed counselor, therapist or social worker. This means they have significant experience conducting assessments of women and girls whose lives have been compromised, and whose relationships with loved ones are often strained.

Admissions Requirements

Admissions coordinators are prepared to help women and families regardless of the circumstances they face. We realize how difficult it is for a family to understand their treatment options.

We maintain a therapeutic treatment environment by adhering to criteria that ensures each woman in our care receives the support she needs, both from staff and from her peers in treatment. To be considered for admission to residential treatment at Timberline Knolls, a woman or girl should meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 12 years old
  • Exhibit symptoms of eating disorders (such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder), alcoholismdrug addictiontrauma, or mood disorders (such as major depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive behavior and self-harming behaviors)
  • Exhibit signs of primary mental illness including secondary addiction

Exclusionary Criteria

While our residential treatment center is well-suited to the needs of women with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder, some factors will exclude a woman from admission, including:

  • Acute psychotic disorders which preclude participation in the residential treatment program structure, including group, experiential and expressive therapies
  • Pending legal problems of such nature as to encumber the resident’s participation in treatment
  • A history of excessive violence, convicted sexual offense or fire-setting
  • Other symptoms or medical complications that may interfere with a woman’s participation in treatment, or require more intensive medical care than we feel we can provide her

Determining What's Best for All Women & Girls

Like other licensed and accredited residential treatment centers, Timberline Knolls believes each woman or girl seeking treatment for eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, PTSD / trauma, and mood disorders should receive the level of care appropriate to her symptoms. At times, our admissions team may recommend a woman or her family seek outpatient treatment, either privately or in a hospital-based treatment program, or inpatient hospitalization (if her medical needs exceed what Timberline Knolls can safely address). In this case, our admissions team will help direct the woman or family to another treatment provider.

The best way to determine whether Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center can help you or a woman you love is to speak with an admissions coordinator.
