Finding your identity outside of illness

Typically we need to be willing to let go of an illness to begin the exploration of who we really are—and what we find on our journey there never ceases to amaze those brave enough to embark (as well as those of us who bear witness to it). A trapeze artist wouldn’t get very far if she was unwilling to let go of her trapeze, and pause, suspended in the air until the next one shows up. In recovery, having ample safety nets to cushion a potential fall makes it a lot easier to consider letting go of the same old trapeze we have been swinging back and forth on for years—whether that’s limiting ourselves through self-destructive behaviors, relationships, character traits or beliefs.

I so support those who are willing to face Everything and Recover.
