Catherine Weigel Foy, LCSW, LMFT
Family Therapist
“The opportunity to hold the hope for, and then become a part of family healing, is a very rewarding experience.”
A family therapist at Timberline Knolls, I work directly with the residents and their families on a weekly basis in the family program, which includes Multi-Family Group, Family Dynamics (for residents), and individual family therapy sessions. Family involvement in recovery is essential to the resident’s recovery. I help to open up the lines of communication to promote healthy family relationships.
I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where I completed my master’s in social work with a concentration in clinical work. I received post-graduate training in family therapy and family therapy supervision at the Institute for Juvenile Research, UIC. I am a licensed clinical social worker and a licensed marriage and family therapist.
I have filled a variety of clinical, administrative and director roles at the Family Institute, Northwestern University, located in Illinois. Throughout my career, I have held administrative, supervisory, training and clinical positions in other settings, including not-for-profit, university-based programs, outpatient mental health, inpatient medical and psychiatric, and community-based settings.
I am on the editorial board for the Journal of Feminist Family Therapy, where I served as associate editor for four years. I have written on a variety of treatment issues for professional journals and published book chapters on marriage and family therapy training and supervision. I present all over the country at workshops and lectures on family therapy and supervision, post-adoptive services, gender-sensitive issues in therapy and supervision, and child and adolescent problems. I have also developed a group treatment program addressing the mother-daughter relationship.
